Designated a World Biosphere Reserve by Unesco in 1989, Charlevoix, with its rolling hills, picturesque towns, and spectacular views of the St. Lawrence River, is one of the few inhabited places to be so designated.
Its scenery has been immortalized by landscape painters like Clarence Gagnon, Marc-Aurèle Fortin, René Richard, and Jean-Paul Lemieux.

A stunning panorama greets you at La Recevante, which is a country home located in Saint-Irénée in the heart of Charlevoix. In summer or winter, you will feel at home in its tranquil setting in the Domaine du Ruisseau-Jureux, near the spectacular St. Lawrence River.
On a clear day, you might see the Manoir Richelieu, the South Shore, and, perched above the St. Lawrence River, Cap-à-l'Aigle and Saint-Fidèle.
Saint-Irénée has been home to famous residents such as Rodolphe Forget, who is the builder of the Québec-Charlevoix railway, and Adolphe Basile Routhier, who is the lyricist of “O Canada.” Saint-Irénée is also known for fine fishing — try capelin in late April, or smelt, right from the church pier — and it conjures up memories of the television series “Le Temps d'une Paix.”
At nearby Domaine Forget, which is famous for its international music school and festival, you can savour an open-air “musical brunch” and a full slate of programming.
At the highest point in the village, visitors will be intrigued by Les Ateliers DeBlois, which is known for its exclusive Charlevoix pottery, its art gallery and an array of gift items created by local artisans.
